John Cochrane was a member of the Manitoba Press Council from 2003 to 2011, including six years as Chairman.

He was publisher of The Winnipeg Sun in the mid-1990s. His broadcasting career of 34 years was spent mostly in Winnipeg with CJOB, a news and information radio station, where he started as an announcer and held management positions for 22 years.

He served on many industry and community boards, including the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, the Western Association of Broadcasters, the Advertising Standard Council of Manitoba, Red River Community College Communications Advisory Group, the Winnipeg Press Club, St. Mary’s Academy High School Board, St. Andrew’s Society, St. Charles Golf and Country Club and the Manitoba Aboriginal Radio Network.
